Research supervision factors influencing students’ completion of masters’ of education degree programs in IUIU main campus.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to assess managerial factors influencing students’ completion of masters’ of educational management programs at IUIU, main campus-Mbale.
The objectives of the study were to establish how University management practices on research influence completion of master’s degree in Educational Management, establish how the quality of supervision influences completion of master’s degree in Educational Management and establish how the relationship between the supervisor and students influence the completion of master’s degree in Educational Management at IUIU.
The study population included 45 students, 5 academic staff and 5 management staff making a total of 55 respondents. Questionnaire and interview were the major tools used for data collection. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics.
The findings of the study revealed that payment of research supervisors in time and allocation of research supervisors according to their academic qualification were the major managerial factors influencing students’ completion of Master of Educational Management at IUIU. Availability of research supervisors and the level of cooperation of research supervisors influence the students’ completion of Master of Educational Management at IUIU. Good relationship between the students and research supervisors increases the chances of students’ completion of Master of Educational Management Program.
From the findings of the study, it was recommended that: There is need for the university authority need to improve on the quality of the research supervision in order to increase on the rate of students’ completion rate of Master of Education Management at IUIU. There is need for the university authorities to foster relationship between the students and supervisors through regular monitoring and putting in place appropriate research policies. This would help to reduce misunderstanding and indiscipline cases among the students and supervisors.
