Teachers’ Perception Of The Effectiveness Of Head Teachers’ Instructional Supervision In Nakaloke Town Council Secondary Schools Mbale, Uganda

Abstract

The Purpose Of This Study Was To Find Out Teachers’ Perception Of The Effectiveness Of Head Teachers’ Instructional Supervision Of Secondary Schools In Nakaloke Town Council Of Mbale District, Uganda. The Objectives Were To Determine The Teachers’ Perception Of The Effectiveness Of Head Teachers’ Formal Classroom Session Visit In Nakaloke Town Secondary Schools And To Determine The Teachers’ Perception Of The Effectiveness Of Head Teachers’ Informal Classroom Session Visit In Nakaloke Town Secondary Schools. A Sample Of One Hundred And Eleven (111) Teachers Was Selected From The Study Population Of 153. The Instrument For Data Collection Was Self Design Questionnaire (TPEHTISQ). The Data Collected Were Analyzed Through SPSS Version 20.0 By Applying Descriptive Statistics Percentages, Frequency And Means. The Findings Revealed That Head Teachers’ During Formal Classroom Visits, They Walk- Around To Check On Teachers Regularity In School And Classes, To See Teachers In The Classroom, To Discuss And Give Feedback To Teachers, To Check On Teachers’ Instructional Planning, To See Teachers Content Delivery, To See Teachers Uses Lesson Plan, To Check On Teachers’ Time Management And To See Teachers Uses Scheme Of Work And There Is Good Teachers’ Perception Of The Effectiveness Of Head Teachers Formal Classroom Visits. (With Overall Mean Of 3.46). Similarly, Head Teachers’ During Informal Classroom Visits, They Use To Discuss With Teachers And Give Feedback, They Ensure That Teachers Are Actually Attending Their Lessons, They Observes Teachers Regularity In School And Class, They Observes How Teachers Uses Instructional Materials, They Observes How Teachers Uses Their Lesson Plans, They Observes Instructional Limitations Of Teachers In The Classroom And They Observes Teachers Time Management And There Was Fair Teachers’ Perception Of The Effectiveness Of Head Teachers Informal Classroom Session Visits. (With Overall Mean Of 2.58). Finally, There Is Good Teachers’ Perception Of Head Teachers’ Instructional Supervision In Nakaloke Town (With Overall Mean Of 3.02). Some Of The Recommendations Were: (I) Head Teachers Should Frequently Supervise Teachers’ Regularity And Attendance In Class. This Can Be Done By Going Round The Classrooms (Ii) Head Teachers Should Properly And Effectively Supervise Teachers’ Instructional Practices In A Collegial Manner In Order To Improve Their Performance.
