dc.description.abstract | This study established the effect of high student enrolment on the management of universal secondary education schools in Sironko district. The specific objectives that guided the study were: to determine the effect of high student enrolment on the management of teaching learning process; to establish the effect of high student enrolment on the management of instructional materials; to establish the effect of high student enrolment on management of staffing; and to determine the effect of high student enrollment on the management of infrastructure in USE schools in Sironko district. This study used cross sectional research design and employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. A sample of 165 respondents was used, comprising of 133 teachers, 10 Head teachers, 10 Deputies, 10 directors of studies, 1 Inspector of schools and 1 District Education Officer. Quantitative data was presented in tables using frequencies and percentages, analyzed using mean and standard deviation; qualitative data was analyzed in narrative and statement format. Overall, teachers believed that high student enrolment had a significant effect on the management of: teaching learning process (M=22.83; SD=661); instructional materials (M=23.19; SD=5.72); staffing (M=23.75; SD=4.32); and infrastructure (M=24.15; SD=6.65). Conclusively, it was found that high student enrolment significantly affected the management of Universal Secondary Education schools in Sironko district. Recommendations were that: regular monitoring of student involvement in the learning process should always be done, teachers should realize that the use of instructional materials during lessons simplifies content and brings distant events into classroom situations for easy understanding, teachers should be remunerated well to motivate them in their teaching profession and schools should make sure that the infrastructure like classrooms, seats, libraries; laboratories among others are properly managed. | en_US |
