(Islamic Universiy In Uganda, 2016) Jama, Mohamed
This study was carried out to examine the relationship between community participation and health service delivery in Hargaisa local government in Somaliland. It was conducted under three specific objectives namely; to examine the relationship between community decision making and health service delivery in Hargaisa local government in Somaliland, to examine the relationship between community monitoring and health service delivery in Hargaisa local government in Somaliland and to examine the relationship between community implementation and health service delivery in Hargaisa local government in Somaliland. The study adopted a correlational research design to establish the relationship between the study variables. Data was collected from respondents by use of questionnaires and interview guides. A census and stratified random sampling techniques were used to select the respondents that participated in the study. Pearson correlations and multiple regression analysis were used to establish the relationship among the study variables. The correlations revealed a significant positive relationship between community involvement in decision making and health service delivery in Hargaisa – Somaliland (r = 0.680, n= 160, p < 0.05), a significant positive relationship between community monitoring and health service delivery in Hargaisa – Somaliland (r = 0.567, n= 160, p < 0.05) and a significant positive relationship between community implementation and health service delivery in Hargaisa – Somaliland (r = 0.621, n= 160, p < 0.05). Furthermore, a stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that community involvement in decision making is the most significant predictor to health service delivery in Hargaisa – Somaliland. Its relationship with health service delivery in Hargaisa – Somaliland was up to 68.0%; its effect on the sample was 46.2% while its effect on the population was 45.8%. The study consequently recommended that decision makers in Hargaisa – Somaliland further involve the local community in determining the allocation of resources in the health sector, for instance through community budgeting where community members and community groups come together with service providers to take a fresh look at local issues and decide the allocation of resources, formalize the monitoring activity and carry it out in accordance with specifications and even submit reports at agreed time and further involve the local communities in the implementation of community health programs since it is not only cheaper but also helps to strengthen local capacity for collective action.

(Islamic Universiy In Uganda, 2015) Wali, Ahmed
The study explored the relationship between Social Media usage and students’ learning activities in Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). The research was driven by the following research hypotheses: there is no statistically significant relationship between Facebook usage and students’ learning activities in IUIU, there is no statistically significant relationship between Twitter usage and students’ learning activities in IUIU, there is no statistically significant relationship between WhatsApp usage and learning students’ learning activities in IUIU, there is no statistically significant relationship between Google plus usage and students’ learning activities in IUIU. The correlational design was adopted to relate usage of social media with students’ learning activities. The study made use of 354 respondents that were proportionately selected across the faculties. The data collected using Social Media Usage and learning Activities’ Questionnaires (SMULQ) was analyzed with the use of descriptive statistics. The strength of the relationships between social media usage and learning activities were established using Pearson Product Moment Correlation for all the hypotheses of the study. The finding revealed that there was a positive small significant relationship between Facebook usage and learning activities of students in IUIU with (r = .190, P< 0.05). The study also showed that there was a medium negative significant relationship between Twitter usage and learning activities of the students in IUIU with (r = -0.660, P< 0.05). The researcher found out the following with regards to WhatsApp usage and learning activity in IUIU, there was a positive small significant relationship between WhatsApp usage and learning activities of students in IUIU with (r = 0.213, P< 0.05). There was a positive large significant relationship between Google plus usage and learning activities of students in IUIU with (r= 0.463, P< 0.05). All of these hypotheses were tested using 0.05 significant levels. The researcher recommended that university should provide policy that includes the use of Facebook, WhatsApp and Google plus in academic process in order to restrict students from using it unnecessarily. It was also recommended that students need to be conversant with usefulness of social media in relation to education through experts’ opinions and seminars.

An Assesment of the Effects of Conflict on the Socio-Economic Livelihood of the Residents of Otuboi Subcounty, Kaberamaido District.
(Islamic Universiy In Uganda, 2008) Opolot, Bernard
The overall objective of this assessment is premised on analysing the effects of war on the socio-economic livelihood of the residents of Otuboi subcounty. It analyses the contributing factors to the socio economic status of people in this sub county and establishes the strengths, resilience and resettlement strategies of families affected by conflict .The assessment serves to highlight the impact of conflict on the traditional coping mechanisms that existed prior to the rebel incursion. (Supportive cultures, beliefs, and practices coupled with social support systems that were the fabric of this society) because the conflict led to massive displacement of local residents forcing them to crowd in internally displacement camps. The return and re-settlement of communities to their original land makes it imperative to know the impacts of the camp life (displacement) on the capacity of the family to function as the immediate unit of support to all family members. In an effort to find answers to the set objectives a descriptive study was under taken in order to capture people’s opinions, perceptions and attitudes, a number of data collection methods were used which included; Questionnaires, observation, focus groups discussions, interview and document review (secondary data). The key findings of this assessment generally reveal that conflict has remarkable effects on the social-economic wellbeing of residents in a community and solutions to the challenges of life difficulties were identified. It’s therefore recommended that the communities be helped by government and development partners to initiate income generating projects to help them acquire skills to engage in business ventures including profitable agricultural practices. Government financial allocations should target priority areas like education to cater for the future generation and there is need for the sub county authorities to enhance coordination especially among development partners so as to bring together development efforts in the different sectors.

This study used correlation research design and employed simple random and purposive sampling techniques to select respondents. A total 132 questionnaires were administered to police officers and parents and a total of 112 returned and interview was also conducted to probation officers and LCs. Data was presented quantitatively by use of statistical tools to objectively measure, predict, interpret and describe human behavior of the relationship between marital conflict remedies and child welfare in Mbale Municipality. The major finding in this study there is a significant relationship between dialogue meetings as marital conflict remedies and child welfare in Mbale Municipality. Of the three aspects or predictors that were used to test the relationship between marital conflict remedies and child welfare in Mbale Municipality, only dialogue meetings were found to be stand alone predictor of the relationship between marital conflict remedies and child welfare in Mbale Municipality. The other two aspects i.e. arrest and apprehension and guidance and counseling marital conflict remedies were excluded as prediction of marital conflict remedies. However, this does not mean that arrest and apprehension and guidance and counseling as marital conflict remedies should be completely ignored. Some of the recommendations are: Authorities, clan leaders, families including married couples should attempt to determine how marriages should amicably be stable without fighting, abusing, battering, mishandling and treating, conflicting couples should always be guided, counseled and helped so as to live in a happy community, as such, discussion should focus on child welfare for example feeding; medication and education have to be given priority. Public private partnership strategy for a solid waste management system for Mbale municipality
    (2014) Kimono, Maimoonah Watuwa
The rapid increase in volume and type of solid waste due to increasing population, industrialization and urbanization in the world over has led to increasing generation of Municipal Solid Wastes. Uganda is one of such areas in the world facing such a challenge which requires sustainable management of wastes. The current solid waste management (SWM) practice in the Mbale Municipality is unsatisfactory. Source separation is hardly practiced and unsorted waste is dumped in open area which poses serious health hazards. This study was aimed at proposing public private partnership strategy for solid waste management system for Mbale municipality. Hence, in this study, household solid waste collected from the 3 divisions of Wanale, Industrial and Northern were characterized and a questionnaire survey on level of public awareness and involvement in waste management and willingness to pay for waste management was conducted among 375 households. The study revealed that the solid waste in the 3 divisions was mostly kitchen with highest percentage of between 83-85%. The total amount of solid waste from domestic sources is estimated at 124.5 tons/day, generated by the population of 71,130 with an average generation rate of 1.75 kg/person/day in the 3 divisions of Mbale municipality. On willingness to pay for solid waste management, a monthly due of Uganda shillings 5000= was found to be appropriate and Ug shs 87,750,000 would be raised per month. Since the cost of transporting 124.5 tons of solid waste was found to be Ug shs 39,060,000 per month, a profit of Ug shs 48,690,000 per month would be made and this would substantially attract a private investor. Hence public private partnership strategy can be adopted in the management of solid wastes in Mbale municipality. Key words: Solid waste management and Public-Private Partnership
