Item Effect of classroom management practice on learners’ academic performance in secondary schools in Nakaloke town council Mbale distric Uganda.(2015) Tangaza, Haruna AminuABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to assess the effect of classroom management practices on learners’ academic performance in secondary schools in Nakaloke town council. The general objective of the study was to establish the effect of classroom management practices on learners’ academic performance in secondary schools in Nakaloke town council, Mbale district, Uganda. The study was guided by the following specific objectives; to examine the effect of management of teaching on learners academic performance in secondary schools in Nakaloke town council, to ascertain the effect of management of teaching materials on learners academic performance secondary schools in Nakaloke town council and to establish the effect management of physical facilities on learners academic performance in secondary schools in Nakaloke town council. The research used a cross-sectional study design. The study used purposive and simple random sampling techniques. The objectives of the study were tested using T-tests since they focused on establishing the effect between variables. The study found that out of the three predictors of learners’ academic performance that is management of teaching, management of teaching materials and management of physical facilities, management of teaching materials was the single stand alone predictor of learners’ academic performance in secondary schools in Nakaloke town council. Therefore, the two predictors that is management of teaching and management of physical facilities are excluded because the predictor is management of teaching materials and it is constant. The study recommended that teachers should ensure that they create positive learning environment, schools should ensure that teachers mange, prepare and make use of professional documents and they should be eager to manage physical facilities such as desks, tables, chairs, classroom environment among others and safe guard them carefully against any harm.Item Influence of Meetings on Academic Staff Performance in Islamic University in Uganda.(2015) Gada, Mustapha. IbrahimThe study looked at the influence of meetings on academic staff performance in Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) main campus. The specific objectives that guided the study were; to determine the extent to which staff meetings improve staff regularity; to examine how staff meeting improves staff commitment and to find out how much staff meetings improve on staff teamwork in Islamic University in Uganda. The study was basically based on cross sectional survey. The total population under study was 253 which require equivalent sample of 100 respondents as guided by (De Vos, (1998). 100 questionnaires were administered to the respondents but 84 questionnaires were returned hence considered for data presentation and analysis. The sampling techniques were random sampling stratified and simple random techniques. Data was collected through questionnaires which were based on three likert scale of 1 for Agree, 2 for Not sure and 3 for Disagree. The data collected was analyzed using relative frequencies and percentages (univariate statistics), Pearson correlation co-efficient (bivariate statistics) and regression analysis. The study found a positive and significant influence of staff meetings on staff regularity. Though, the extent to which staff meetings improved staff regularity in Islamic University in Uganda was very small (Sig=0.032); findings showed staff meetings and staff commitment were statistically and significantly related (Sig=0.000); and that there was a moderate significant relationship between staff meetings and staff teamwork (Sig=0.002). In conclusion, there was a statistical significant influence between staff meetings and staff regularity; staff meetings and staff commitment were statistically and significantly related, there is also statistical significant relationship between meetings and staff teamwork at IUIU. Recommendations of the study were; university should set realistic and achievable standards and policy on effective staff meetings. University administration need to realize that they are the bedrock of any educational system in the university and it is crucial for university authorities to maximize communication between all team members, to have the opportunity to meet together as a group, identify what areas require discussion, and ensure the time is sufficiently structured to enable it to be used as efficiently as possibleItem Influence of mothers’ occupational status on students academic achievement in sultan Muhammadu Maccido insititute for Qur‘anic and general studies Sokoto state, Nigeria.(2015) Jibril., FaisalABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to find influence of mothers’ occupational status on students academic achievement in Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Insititute For Qur‘anic and General Studies Sokoto State, Nigeria. The study was guided by the following specific objectives, To find out the extent to which working mothers influence their children academic achievements, To find out the extent to which non working mothers influence their children academic achievement, To examine the difference between academic achievement of working mothers’ children and those children of non working mothers Furthermore, three research hypotheses were established to find out the statistical relationship, and to strengthen validity of the findings as regard to objectives. A cross sectional survey design was used, purposive sampling was used in selecting sample, 246 out of 3567. A questionnaire titled mothers occupational status and student academic achievement (MOSSAQ) and the end term scores of the students were used. The data collected was analyzed using SPSS. The results as computed using Pearson correlation coefficient shows that the correlation revealed a high positive correlation (r = .659) between working mothers attention and students’ academic achievement. Considering the p-value (sig. = .000 < .05), was therefore suggested that there is a statistically significant relationship between working mothers and students’ academic achievement, secondly non-working mothers attention and students’ academic achievement. The result of the correlation revealed a moderate and positive correlation (r = .426) between non-working mothers attention and students’ academic achievement. Considering the p-value (sig. = .000 < .05), it was therefore suggested that there is a statistically significant relationship between non-working mothers and students’ academic achievement, finally an independent-samples t-test was conducted to compare the academic achievement of students of working mothers and students of non-working mothers. There was a statistically significant difference in the academic achievement for students of working mothers (M=4.52, SD=0.31) and students of non-working mothers [M=3.24, SD=0.46; t(238)=1.78, p=.002]. The magnitude of the differences in the means was very small (0.01). These findings suggest that students of working mothers slightly perform well more than students of non-working mothers; therefore, the researcher recommended that, Mothers should actively get involved in their children’s education irrespective of their working class. This can be done by frequently checking of the children’s note books, helping them in assignments and other academic activities that will improve their academic success, Mothers should devote time to interact with their children irrespective of their working class. This can be done by creating a close rapport with the children so as to know the strengths and weaknesses of the children’s academic and social life, in a situation where assisting the children in their home work is not possible, mothers should look for experts (under their care) who will teach the children and enable the children to overcome academic difficulties.Item Management of school facilities and Academic performance in Secondary schools in Mbale district.(2012) Kamulegeya, FaridahABSTRACT After observing the worrying trend facing the education sector in the world today and Mbale district in particular, the researcher conducted a research on ‘Management of school facilities and academic performance in secondary schools in Mbale district’ The objectives of the study were to assess the effect of management of library, laboratory and classroom facilities on academic performance in secondary schools in Mbale district. The researcher adopted across-section survey design .Population of the study comprised all secondary schools, secondary teachers, secondary students, secondary deputies and Headteachers in Mbale District. Overall, a total of six schools were purposively selected in both rural and urban areas of Mbale district. 80 students and 5 teachers from each school were randomly selected as the sample of the study.552 respondents participated in the study. Questionnaires were administered to: students, teachers, deputy Headteachers and Headteachers. The researcher also used interviews, observations and document analysis in the collection of data. The data collected was analyzed by an SPSS computer programme where descriptive statistics were used and converted to percentage and finally summarized in the tables and pie charts for easy interpretation of information The researcher identified that there was great deficiency in the availability and the use of science laboratories. The study also found out that a few schools had physical libraries. Those available were inadequately equipped and the few available facilities poorly managed .Inadequacy of enough classrooms, overcrowding of these classrooms and poor daily assessment were cited to be hindering effective and efficient classroom management.. Hence, there should be stress on development of good study habits by the students. There is the necessity to develop and maintain a good library and provide more opportunities for the students to visit and spend more time in library. The researcher concluded that the less availability, misallocation and the deficiency in the use of science laboratory items lead to the wastage of resources, the effectiveness of science laboratory and lower academic performance. Science laboratory can have an enormous effect if science laboratory items are properly allocated, equalized per student and efficiently used with the standard quantity and quality. It was established that facilities were potent to high academic achievement of students, therefore Ministry of Education and Sports should provide adequate material resources to rural/urban locations to enhance teaching and learning process. The Parents Teacher Association (PTA), philanthropist and other charitable organizations are also implored to compliment the effort of government to boost the academic performance of students in secondary schools in Mbale District
